Dear Local Puppy Owner,
Your puppy’s first grooming experiences can influence how they respond to grooming for the rest of their life.
A puppy does not automatically understand the sound of a dryer, the feeling of water, a brush moving through the coat, someone handling their paws or the experience of standing safely for professional care.
Those things have to be introduced.
When that introduction is calm, patient and appropriate for the individual puppy, grooming can become a normal part of life instead of something frightening or overwhelming.
That is why Tailwag Soin&Grooming created Puppy Start.
The First Appointment Is About More Than Appearance
Of course, we want your puppy to leave clean, brushed and looking wonderful.
But the larger goal is to begin building trust and comfort with the grooming process.
Puppy Start provides a calm, one-on-one introduction to:
• Bathing with an appropriate professional shampoo
• Controlled drying introduced at your puppy’s pace
• Brushing and coat handling
• Ear cleaning
• Paw handling and nail care
• Gentle professional handling
• A personalized recommendation for maintaining your puppy’s coat at home
The exact appointment is adjusted according to your puppy’s age, coat, condition and temperament. We do not force a young puppy through more than they can safely and reasonably manage during their first visit.
Why Start Before Six Months?
Waiting until a puppy is heavily overgrown, tangled or matted can make the first grooming appointment unnecessarily difficult.
Starting early helps your puppy become familiar with:
• Being handled around the face, ears and paws
• Standing safely on a grooming table
• The sounds and sensations of professional equipment
• Regular brushing and coat maintenance
• Returning to the same groomer and salon environment
This early foundation can make future appointments calmer, safer and more predictable for your puppy.
It also gives you practical guidance before coat problems become serious.
A Different Kind of Grooming Experience
Tailwag Soin&Grooming is a one-on-one, appointment-only salon in Côte-Saint-Luc.
Your puppy is not being processed through a crowded, assembly-line environment.
The appointment is reserved specifically for your puppy, allowing the work and handling to be adjusted as needed.
We focus on coat preservation, safe handling and the long-term grooming relationship.
Every coat has a purpose—and learning how to care for that coat should begin early.
